Blünke is a fashion statement onto herself. She is a wild cat Afrikaans girl that likes things raw. In this quick Q and A Tert, as she is known to her followers talks lifestyle.

B, all good. Thank you for agreeing to the interview. I’m looking forward to it.
Let’s start earlier in your life…..Could you please paint a picture of the 16-year-old Blunke for us?

She had bleached hair, knew nothing about fashion and hadn’t seen Clueless yet, so her wardrobe was not cute. She was ignorant and confused. She wore skinny jeans, some she even made herself. Passionate about her self imposed fashion trends and oblivious to the future. But damn was she excited.

Where did your love for fashion originate?

From my mom. You should know that my mom is not a tannie, she’s hot AF! She would dress up immaculately. Hit the salon. She’d have her hair done, her nails done, stilettos on, killing it every day. My Grandma also added to my interest and knowledge. She made clothes, suits and ‘pakkies vir die tannies.’ She taught me everything she knew. And then my finally my muse and brother, Wesley. We would make dresses for our Barbies with scrap fabrics and he showed me what avant-garde is.

Suffering from my utter loneliness and drowning in a deep pit of despair, I turned to the cowboy within me.

Your cowboy range is quite a hit in Cape Town. What was the inspiration for creating this dreamy (pictured) body of work?

Suffering from my utter loneliness and drowning in a deep pit of despair, I turned to the cowboy within me. I saw my horse all saddled up and waiting for me to giddy-up and get the hell out of there. I decided it’s time to rescue myself. I needed to show myself that the ‘kak’ things in life won’t keep me down. I’m still fighting. I’m still pointing my gun, I’m ready. Fucking come for me.

How Afrikaans would you rate yourself?

‘ERG.’ Erg Afrikaans, For the English folk just think ‘hectic.’

Who locally and internationally gets your creative juices flowing?

People, places and things that are over the top in your face. Rebellious and Loud. Kitsch Cheap and unconventional. Throw those at me got me all juicy and wet.

What are you working on for the future?

Yes, I’m launching a range of tiny bags. Just big enough to fit your phone, some cigarettes and a light. They’re cute and also covered in plastic so you can spill whatever on them. A true Tert Essential.

What would be an ideal Friday evening out as Blünke/Trotse Tert?

To never be alone and be surrounded by the ones you love and the ones who love you back. Then it doesn’t matter what I’m doing or what we’re getting up to, it’s always a party in any way. Frozen Margaritas, definitely add a great flair to Friday night though.

Thanks Blünke.

Dankie vir julle en baie liefde. Tert.
